OSRS TCG Skilling Starter Guide: The Best Ways to Turn XP Into Packs
Non-combat XP is credits in OSRS TCG. This starter guide covers the community's best early skilling — Agility, the Thieving ladder, Wintertodt, Blast Furnace pumping — and the clever no-tool workarounds.

In OSRS TCG, non-combat XP is money. Every 1,000 XP converts to about 100 credits, and every level-up pays a bonus on top. That makes skilling the most reliable pack factory in the mode — so knowing the best early methods matters. Here's the community's proven playbook.
Start here: Agility + free quests
- 1Agility 1–20 at Draynor rooftop. Pure XP, pure credits, no unlocks. Al Kharid at 20 is only worth it with energy potions.
- 2Three free quests that need no cards and hand you instant levels: the Varrock Museum quiz (9 Slayer + 9 Hunter), The Restless Ghost (9 Prayer) and Hazeel Cult (11 Thieving).
- 3Don't over-grind Agility — 20 is enough to start. Pivot to Thieving and combat.
The Thieving ladder (your bread and butter)
Thieving is cheap, AFK-friendly and scales into a top earner:
- 1–11: Hazeel Cult quest, or pickpocket "the guns" near the Ardougne clocktower (~1–5 in 4 min).
- 5–25: Cake stalls in East Ardougne.
- 25–50: Fruit stalls in Hosidius (bonus: free papaya food).
- 50+: Wealthy citizens in Varlamore — the AFK meta, ~55k/hr AFK or ~90–130k/hr hopping.
The big unlock: Wintertodt (Firemaking)
Once you can reach it, Wintertodt is the dominant credit engine in the mid-game. The clan chat was practically built around it:
1 WT = 1 pack.
Getting 2,400–2,600 points per round.

Resource
A bruma root, chopped from the bruma tree.

Resource
This should light a brazier nicely.
Requirements the community confirmed repeatedly
- 50 Firemaking, an axe, and bruma roots (chop them there).
- Food that heals 4+ HP — warmth is your HP bar at Wintertodt, so don't go in with weak food.
- Tinderbox, hammer, knife and kindling are bonuses, not requirements.
- Go to group worlds — solo is rough without Herblore. A "Wintertodt scouter" plugin (search
scoutin the Plugin Hub) hops you into fresh games instantly.
Reported output lands around 320k–370k Firemaking XP/hour — enormous credits, plus a pack's worth of points essentially every round.
AFK Strength: Blast Furnace "pumping"
Want Strength levels while barely at the keyboard? Blast Furnace pumping is the go-to pure-AFK method:
- Needs 30 Strength (or 30 Agility) and you only have to start the Giant Dwarf cutscene — no other quest progress required.
- Done on worlds 302/303 (busy and laggy — turn on Low Detail, Entity Hider and cap your FPS).
You can AFK pump at work.
No card? No problem — the workarounds
Cardcore's signature puzzle: you've unlocked a high-tier tool but not the low level to use it, or vice versa. The community's fixes:
- Woodcutting 1–6 with no axe: cut cactus near Tempoross with a knife or slash weapon (~1 hour to level 6). Or pick up ground logs in Lumbridge castle.
- Firemaking with no tinderbox: cut achey logs (south of Castle Wars / Feldip Hills), bank them, and add them to a static fire — the Rogues' Den fire is the go-to (also the GE and forestry worlds). Players report reaching "65 FM without a tinderbox."
- Mining 1–6 with no pickaxe: panning (needs the Cup of Tea card), Doric's Quest, or searching the Digsite specimen tray (~0.5 XP each). Shooting Stars become good from ~10 Mining.
- Fishing early: the Cup of Tea card enables panning; a harpoon spawns on a crate at Tempoross.
- Fletching: you need both a knife card and a logs card — a very common disappointment. Achey shafts work at level 5; some quests (Animal Magnetism, Zogre Flesh Eaters) grant shortcut XP.
- Crafting (the "10 Crafting wall"): Death on the Isle (~20 Crafting), or mould soft clay into unfired pots at the Varlamore crafting shop. "It's get clay or die."

Resource • Consumable
A nice cup of tea.

Resource • Fremennik • Kandarin • Kourend • Desert • Asgarnia • Varlamore
Useful for catching really big fish.
You ever just wander around like a hobo looking for a lit fire.
Rough rate notes from the community
Take player-reported rates as ballpark, not gospel:
- Chopping willows ≈ "one pack per hour" in XP.
- Museum cleaning ~10–11k/hr (slow).
- Fruit stalls cap ~42k/hr ("it's ass" next to wealthy citizens).
- Wealthy citizens ~55–65k/hr AFK, more when hopping.
Bottom line
Open with Agility + the three free quests, live on the Thieving ladder, then make Wintertodt your home once you hit 50 Firemaking, with Blast Furnace pumping for hands-off Strength. Keep the credits infobox on so you always know your credits/hour — when a method makes that number go up, it's a keeper.

Frequently asked
- What is the best skilling method in OSRS TCG?
- Early on, Agility to 20 plus the three free quests, then the Thieving ladder. In the mid-game, Wintertodt is the dominant credit engine once you have 50 Firemaking, an axe and 4HP+ food, with Blast Furnace pumping for AFK Strength.
- What do I need for Wintertodt in OSRS TCG?
- 50 Firemaking, an axe, bruma roots (chopped there), and food that heals 4+ HP because warmth is your HP bar. Tinderbox, hammer, knife and kindling are bonuses. Group worlds are strongly recommended.
- How do I skill without the right tool cards in OSRS TCG?
- Workarounds exist: cut cactus with a knife for early Woodcutting, add logs to static fires for Firemaking without a tinderbox, pan for Mining/Fishing with the Cup of Tea card, and use quests for shortcut Fletching and Crafting XP.
