Walkthrough overview

    Enter Brimstail's cave south-west of the Spirit Tree in the Tree Gnome Stronghold and speak to him, agreeing to hear his history and start the quest. Inspect the singing bowl and the machine panel as asked.

    Travel to Hazelmere, east of Yanille, and talk to him (46 Magic required, unboostable) to watch the cutscene of the gnome-goblin war and receive a viol.

    Return to Brimstail and watch the invisible gnome sabotage the machine. Crush a mud rune with the pestle and mortar and use it on the bucket of sap to make magic glue (a bucket of sap can be extracted from the pointy tree just north of the cave with a knife and a bucket).

    Repair the machine using the maple logs, oak logs and glue, with a hammer and saw in your inventory, then unlock and restart it.

    Speak to Brimstail again; the creatures are revealed as evil. Kill the six Evil Creatures, then report to King Narnode for your reward to finish the quest.
