Walkthrough overview

Search the bookcases in the south-east corner of the Exam Centre to find a beaten book with a scroll. Read both, then head to Seers' Village (keep the book until the end).

If needed, get a battered key from the Seers' Village bookcase, enter the workshop, and search the machinery in the water elemental room to get the key for the main hatch.

Unlock and descend the hatch. Take the crane and lever schematics from the schematic crate, then smith a bar into a crane claw and fit it to the crane.

Operate the machinery — pull the old lever to turn off the fan so the cart moves forward (twice if you also want the mind shield).

In the mind room, place a bar on the extractor gun and operate the extractor hat to make a primed mind bar (draining Magic by 20). Retrieve it, smith the mind helmet, and finish the quest.
