What you bring — nothing at all
You cannot join a game with any followers, inventory items, or anything equipped in the head slot — everything must be banked at the chest near Honest Jimmy first. Every tool the game needs is supplied inside your team's base.
Ingredients you gather inside
Rum needs several ingredients hoppered on the top floor, all collected from the island itself rather than brought in.

Sweetgrubs are lured from dirt mounds with raw meat, water is pumped outside the base, scrapey bark is fletched from scrapey logs, and bowls hold the coloured water made from jungle flowers.
Tools supplied at the workbench
The ground-floor workbench hands out whatever tools a task needs, so these never have to be carried in.
What pieces of eight buy
Honest Jimmy sells cosmetic naval outfits, pirate banners and a couple of practical extras, all bought with the pieces of eight earned from finished rum and your contribution to it.
