An unsettling desert wanderer may know of a secret entrance though, to Sophanem - the city of the dead. Will you become Icthlarin's Little Helper by entering? Enter into a titanic struggle for the soul of the high priest of Icthlarin in a land where the cat is top dog.

  • Cat, hellcat, or kittenany one

    Any of a regular or overgrown cat, hellcat, or kitten. No food is needed as the cat mostly stays in your inventory.

    Used: Carried throughout; shown to the Sphinx and used to answer its riddle.

  • Bag of saltany one

    Bring a bag of salt, or an empty bucket to collect salt water and make a pile of salt in Sophanem.

    Used: Given to the Embalmer to prepare the ceremony.

  • Means to enter the desert

    Any desert-access method works — a Shantay pass, teleport tablets or scrolls, or fairy rings also suffice.

    Used: Reaching the Wanderer north of Sophanem.

Walkthrough overview

    Gather your supplies (a cat, tinderbox, willow log, bag of salt, bucket of sap, full waterskin and linen) and travel to the Wanderer north of Sophanem to begin. You lose bank access once the quest starts.

    Touch the pyramid door to trigger the first flashback and navigate through the pyramid, avoiding the wall-crushers and pit traps.

  3. 3

    After the flashback, talk to the Sphinx with your cat out and answer its riddle correctly (the answer is 9) to avoid losing your cat.

    In the second flashback, pick up the correct canopic jar; one of four Apparitions attacks. Solve the door puzzle and return the jar where you found it.

    Speak to the High Priest, then give the willow log to the Carpenter for a holy symbol and give the bucket of sap, linen and bag of salt to the Embalmer.

    Return into the pyramid for the ceremony. In the burial chamber fight the level 91 Possessed Priest (Protect from Magic helps), then speak to the High Priest.

    Watch the final flashback outside the pyramid and talk to the High Priest to complete the quest.
