The Rat Pits are an underground betting ring where a trained cat fights rats for coins. Each of the four pits only takes cats at one growth stage, and access opens up gradually while helping the pit owners during Ratcatchers.

Place a bet between 100 and roughly 20,000 coins, then watch your cat fight for it — win and you keep the pot, lose and it's gone. Getting into a pit at all comes from helping its owner during the Ratcatchers activity, which unlocks the four pits one at a time, and ironman accounts cannot take part at all. It's also one of the quietest minigames in the game, so playing usually means bringing a second player along.
The right cat for the right pit
Each of the four pits is strict about which growth stage of cat it allows in — bring the wrong one and you simply can't enter.
